Deputies participate in Active Shooter Training

Deputies with the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office are conducting active shooter training this week at the old hospital on the campus of Oconee Medical Center, explains Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Jimmy Watt.  “We have been able to use the top two floors of Oconee Medical Center for active shooter training.  This is a simulation of a gun man or someone who was posing a threat to, let’s say a hospital, school or whatever else, we would run through different training exercises, different scenarios, different law enforcement techniques to be able to stop the threat and neutralize the situation.  It is something where you hope it never happens but you train because there is a possibility it might.  So, if you see a lot of law enforcement vehicles in the parking lot of the hospital, especially near the old hospital, we are going to be involved in training there for the next few days coming up.”  This training involves classroom and simulations on the top two floors of the old Oconee Medical Center building behind the new hospital.
