DHEC COVID-19 Numbers Update: Second Highest Day of New Cases on Thursday

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) has announced 1,723 new confirmed cases and one new probable case of the novel coronavirus COVID-19, 22 additional confirmed deaths and no new probable deaths. There are currently 1,433 hospital beds occupied by patients who have either tested positive or are under investigation for COVID-19. This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 50,548, probable cases to 143, confirmed deaths to 898 and 7 probable deaths. Nineteen of the deaths occurred in elderly individuals, three were middle aged.

Dr. Joan Duwve serves as Director of Public Health for the Department of Health and Environmental Control, and she said that yesterday’s numbers were the second highest day of new cases confirmed positive here. Oconee County added 14 new cases yesterday, Anderson had 23 and Pickens County confirmed 30 new positive cases of COVID-19.
