Dollar General granted Zoning Variance

The Seneca Zoning Board of Appeals approved a variance Thursday night clearing the way for Dollar General to relocate out of the Big Lots Center into a stand alone building on West North 1st Street and Yarid Street in downtown Seneca. The variance will allow developers to have five fewer parking spaces, explains Seneca Planning and Development Director Ed Halbig. “The request was for reduced parking based on the city’s parking requirements and what Dollar General normally puts in their parking plans. The estimate was that the property would need about 45 spaces. It was determined that they actually needed approximately 36 spaces and they were looking for a variance to allow them to have 31 spaces. The Zoning Board of Appeals approved that variance for 31 spaces.” Halbig said that developers will be submitting site work plans for the project in next few weeks. This will be a new 9,100 square foot stand alone Dollar General store.
