Domestic Violence Forum attracts Crowd
A large crowd of concerned citizens attended last night’s domestic violence forum hosted by the United Way of Oconee County and Safe Harbor. Domestic violence continues to be a serious issue locally, with six deaths reported in the last six months. The need for a domestic violence shelter in Oconee County was stressed at the meeting. Safe Harbor is a domestic violence shelter with locations in Greenville and Anderson. Representatives with the non-profit agency said in order to build a shelter in Oconee County, Safe Harbor would need to raise $1 million. According to Safe Harbor, half of those living in Oconee County know someone who is a victim of domestic violence and 38% of those victims are children.
