Drowning reported at Fall Creek

Shortly after 4:50pm Wednesday, July 4, Oconee County emergency responders were alerted to a report of a drowning at Fall Creek Landing on Lake Keowee near Salem. First arriving units were on scene within 10 minutes and bystanders told them that a male had gone under at the popular “jumping off rock”. Divers from Oconee and Pickens counties were quickly deployed and the subject recovered within 30 minutes of arriving on scene. Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis reports that a 21-year-old Greenville man died from an apparent drowning. His name will be released on Thursday after the family has been notified. The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources is investigating the incident. Other units responding to the scene were Salem Fire and Rescue, EMS from Greenville Health System’s Oconee Memorial Hospital, Oconee County Dive Team, Oconee County Emergency Services, Vineyards Fire Department and Oconee County Sheriff’s Office.
