Duke Energy Announces Awards $3.2 Million Dollars In Grants To 131 Innovative K-12 Education Programs

(Seneca, SC)——————–Duke Energy recently announced that it is awarding $3.2 million dollars in grants to support 131 innovative K-12 education programs across the communities that are served by the company. 

The 2019 Powerful Communities grants, from the Duke Energy Foundation with support from Piedmont Natural Gas, funds programs that prevent summer reading loss and out-of-school programs. The grants also support energy, engineering and environmental education programs to equip students with the skills needed for successful careers in the energy sector. 

In the state of South Carolina, $485,000 in grant money was donated to 13 non-profit projects. Among the programs are Camp iRock in Anderson School District One, which targets at-risk children who are in the 2nd and 3rd grades, the No Summer Slide Here! program in Anderson County School District Two, a program which distributes over 4,500 books to 903 upcoming K-upcoming 3rd grade students, the Clemson University Foundation PEER and WISE programs that provides multiple camp opportunities that target middle school girls interested in the field of engineering and seeks to increase the number of women and minorities students who pursue higher education in the engineering fields with a mentor ship experience and the United Way of Pickens County’s Camp iRock Expansion which involves expansion of an existing state recognized reading camp for summer reading loss, engaging kindergarten students.
