Duke Energy Carolinas Winter Weather Energy Conservation Request

Duke Energy Carolinas is asking all customers in the Carolinas to voluntarily reduce energy use from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Monday, February 2, due to extremely cold temperatures 10–20 degrees below normal causing unusually high demand on the grid and raising the risk of temporary power outages.

Suggested steps include setting thermostats to the lowest comfortable level, avoiding major appliances such as washing machines, dryers, and dishwashers during that time, turning off unnecessary lights and devices, and charging electric vehicles midday when demand is lower.

The company is maximizing generation, purchasing additional power, and coordinating with large customers on demand response programs, and appreciates customers’ cooperation to help maintain reliable service.
