Early Morning Fire Destroys Large Lakefront Home on Westwood Bay Drive

Fire crews responded earlier this morning to reports of a structure fire on Westwood Bay Drive off of Keowee School Road.

According to Deputy Chief Ryan Eubanks with Oconee County Emergency Services, dispatchers received a 911 call in regards to initial reports of a possible large brush fire. A second caller told dispatchers that the fire actually involved a structure. When fire crews got on scene, they discovered a heavily involved structure fire involving a residence.

The residence, which is around 7,000 square feet, is a total loss, according to Eubanks and is located on the waterfront at Lake Keowee. The home, according to Eubanks, is not the owner’s primary home but is a weekend or summer home.

As of 7:35 am this morning, fire crews were on the scene to continue their investigation and to put out any hotspots. No cause of the fire has been determined yet, according to Eubanks. Eubanks says that he is unaware of any injuries or any entrapment with the fire.
