Early Voting Underway – Oconee County’s Absentee Ballots in the Mail

The Oconee County elections office put in the mail around six thousand recently applied for ballots to be filled out and returned to the office in time to be counted for the November General Election.

Voters who filled out their applications within only the last few days will have to remain patient for a little while longer to get their ballots, however.

Voting absentee and by mail is a volatile political issue this year, with Republicans worried about fraud and Democrats using the pandemic as justification to vote absentee or by mail. The U.S. Supreme Court re-instated a South Carolina requirement that every returned absentee ballot must bear the signature of a witness.
