Eight killed on SC Roadways over Weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces that eight people were killed on state roadways over the weekend. As of Nov. 5, 2017, 817 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 862 highway deaths during the same time period in 2016. Locally, the South Carolina Department of Public Safety lists Anderson County with 35 fatalities in 2017 compared to 53 in 2016 at this same time. Pickens County reports 20 in 2017 and 17 in 2016. Oconee County has experienced 15 traffic fatalities in 2017 compared to 10 in 2016 at this same time. Of the 549 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2017, 268 were not wearing seat belts. Through midnight Nov. 5, 125 pedestrians have died compared to 120 in 2016; 102 motorcyclists have died compared to 131 in 2016; and 16 bicyclists have died compared to 22 in 2016 on state roadways.
