Eleven killed on SC Roadways over Weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of 11 persons killed on state roadways over the weekend. As of May 20, 367 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 400 highway deaths during the same time period in 2017. Of the 264 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2018, 133 were not wearing seat belts. Through May 20, 55 pedestrians have died compared to 54 in 2017; 35 motorcyclists have died compared to 43 in 2017; and six bicyclists have died compared to eight in 2017 on state roadways. These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of 11:59pm on May 20.
