Employers looking for Educated Workforce

Employers are not only looking for educated labor to fill high skill positions, they are looking to fill traditionally lower skill jobs as well.  According to a new CareerBuilder Survey, 32% of hiring managers and human resource professionals said they are hiring more employees with college degrees for positions that were historically held by high school graduates.  Michael Erwin, Senior Career Adviser at the online career site says the trend spans across various sectors. “The financial services industry was the number one industry hiring these college graduates for high school graduate jobs, followed by healthcare, manufacturing and transportation.”  Erwin finds it interesting where certain industries ranked in the survey.  “It is interesting that manufacturing and transportation are so high up on this list because now it has gone from an assembly line sort of workplace to more of a high tech, more of an innovative and they are hiring more college graduates to fill those positions.” Erwin explains what is happening on the employment landscape. “College graduates now have to take lower skilled jobs and then it is also because companies now want to have higher productivity and they want to be able to compete more with others, so they are hiring these college graduates to fill those positions.” To read the complete survey of hiring managers and human resource professionals, visit www.CareerBuilder.com.
