Enjoy the Mountains and Lakes of OC

Summer is here and that means more visitors to the Golden Corner of South Carolina as people flock here to see the mountains and lakes.  However, locals are being encouraged to get out and enjoy the natural beauty of Oconee County, so they can spread the word too, says Mountain Lakes Convention and Visitors Bureau president and CEO Ken Sloan.  “One of our most important things is getting local folks knowledgeable and to become stewards of our natural resources and become ambassadors for our tourism organization, so when we have visitors come in and ask what is there to do, they don’t say I don’t know but they say what is there not to do.  We have four lakes, we have two rivers, we have 29 trials to waterfalls and 85,000 acres of natural forest land.” Sloan was referring to the fact that National Geographic recently released a Special Publication entitled “50 of the World’s Last Great Places – Destinations of a Lifetime“.  Oconee County’s Jocassee Gorges is one of those places.   To learn more about things to do in Oconee County, visit www.scmountainlakes.com.
