City of Clemson Open House

The City of Clemson invites the community to two open house events at the new Fire Station and the new Utilities office and laboratory this weekend. Both locations will be open to the community on Friday, Sept. 21, from 3-7pm and Saturday, Sept. 22, from 9am to 1pm. The new fire station, which also features the new community room, is located at 740 Issaqueena Trail. This new $3.4 million, 10,000 square foot substation was built to ensure quick response times and provide the highest level of public safety in our growing community. The City of Clemson shares a fire department with Clemson University through an interagency agreement that allows the Clemson University Fire Department to provide fire suppression services on campus and throughout the city. Clemson City Fire Chief Bill Daniels says, “We are excited to welcome the community to tour the new fire substation and meet our firefighters and other public safety personnel this coming weekend. Since becoming operational, the facility has proven to be a valuable asset to the community and provided the fire department with improved service delivery capabilities on the east side of the city. We are extremely grateful to the City of Clemson for this great partnership that allows us to provide the best possible Fire and Emergency Service delivery to both University and the City of Clemson. The Blood Connection will be on site Saturday from 9am to 1:30pm, and with the recent hurricane creating a need for blood donations, we encourage all who can to come by and give.” Those interested in donating blood on Saturday can sign up online at https://donate.thebloodconnection.org/donor/schedules/drive_schedule/121572. The new utilities office and laboratory is located at 300 Cochran Road, up the hill from the current office and treatment plant. The new office is the first phase of a $15.6 million treatment plant expansion that will double the treatment plant’s capacity. This expansion is necessary to support the commercial growth occurring in the city and to maintain compliance with DHEC regulations. With the completion of the new laboratory and office, the city can move forward with the second phase of the expansion. Sealed bids are currently being accepted for the expansion of the wastewater treatment plant. The department is not yet moved in to the new office space but plans to begin moving in on Sept. 26. Clemson Utilities Director Benjie McGill says, “The staff is excited about the move to the new building and beginning the next phase of the waste water treatment plant improvements. This new building will allow growth in the utilities department for hopefully 50 years.” Staff will be on site at both locations Friday and Saturday to answer questions and give brief tours of these new facilities.
