Explore 150 Years of OC

The Oconee County Council officially kicked off the county’s 150th birthday with a special proclamation and reception last night. Oconee County Councilman Julian Davis said this is a year for citizens to explore the county’s history. “I’m super excited to represent District 4 at the 150th proclamation that we have today. My family has been a part of Oconee County since it started, so it is a great thing to be a part of and be up here today celebrating that as we celebrate every year in Oconee County, not just the 150th. I’m excited about what the next 150 years are going to be like. I brought my son with me tonight, to say in 50 years you’ll be around to see 200 years in Oconee County. I’m blessed to grow up and live around here and also serve the area and it is just an amazing county with the people. I want to challenge people to find something new in Oconee County this year that you have never done before, maybe its a hike or maybe a group that you haven’t been a part of or something. I constantly hear that there is not a lot to do in Oconee County. Oconee County is loaded with tons of free entertainment for your family. As the great weather that we are blessed with in Oconee County gets nicer, use that to your family’s advantage for this free entertainment that we have with the beautiful outdoors we have. We have the 150 great things to do in Oconee County and a lot of those are free. In today’s time, you don’t have free entertainment, Oconee County is very blessed with that. I just super excited for Oconee County’s 150th.” Everyone in attendance received a commemorative coin.
