Fall Sports Decision Anticipated; SDOC Implementing Plan for Students Use of Facilities at School

Will high school football be played this year? As workouts get underway, the questions still looms as to what fall sports will look like in South Carolina. School Districts across the Palmetto State, including Oconee, will defer to the State’s High School League for the decision if sports will be played, but the number of fans in attendance, if any, could be a local decision. In a statement, School District of Oconee County spokesperson Jennifer Dodd said, “Any decision we make will comply with the Governor’s emergency declaration concerning stadiums (50% capacity or 250, whichever is smaller). Keeping that in mind, social distancing will certainly apply if fans are allowed into stadiums.” Another concern surrounding the return to classes in Oconee County on August 24th is the use of restrooms at school. There will be no changes, officials said, except for the fact that the District has plans in place to limit the number of students inside a restroom at any one time. Otherwise, restrooms will remain open as normal with enhanced cleaning, according to school officials.
