Farm Day Returns to Pendleton

On Saturday, the grounds of Ashtabula will be taken over by old tractors, cotton gins, hit and miss engines, hay balers, chickens, and more. Demonstrations will be given on various old time crafts, such as blacksmithing, quilting, milling, caning, open hearth cooking, and basket weaving. This year a special “Kid’s Corner” will allow children to shell corn, spin, weave,  make candles, use old time tools, and play with old time toys, such as, the rolling hoop, ball and cup, Jacob’s ladder, tops, and more. The event runs from 10am to 3pm and admission to the grounds is $5 per vehicle. Smokin’ Pig will be selling BBQ plates for $6. For more information, visit www.pendletonhistoricfoundation.org. Ashtabula Historic House will also be open for tours that day, at a reduced cost of $4 for ages 11 and over and $2 for ages 5-10. Tours of the house run 11am to 3pm and will leave every half-hour. Ashtabula is a circa 1820s home built by the Charleston Gibbes family and was home to several other prominent Charleston families during the 19th century.  Ashtabula is located on Highway 88, about three miles east of downtown Pendleton.
