Fatality Following Police Chase in Clemson

A police pursuit initiated by the Central Police Department on Thursday morning, May 15, ended on Highway 76 in Clemson when a 2005 Honda Accord, pursued while traveling west on Highway 93, attempted to exit onto Highway 76, subsequently leaving the roadway, descending an embankment, and overturning, resulting in the death of the driver, Jeremy Basquette, 32, of Pickens, SC, who was transported to Prisma Greenville hospital and pronounced deceased with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Clemson University Public Safety managed traffic redirection on Highway 76 for several hours during the investigation, which was cleared by Thursday evening, with Pickens County Sheriff Tommy Blankenship confirming no known threat to the community…
The incident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), the Pickens County Coroner’s Office, Pickens County Sheriff’s Office, Central Police Department, and South Carolina Highway Patrol, with an autopsy for Mr. Basquette scheduled for today.
