FERC approves Duke Energy Project on Lake Keowee
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission announces approval of a Duke Energy application to allow a new use for a Lake Keowee area not far from Oconee Nuclear Station. The order allows three contractors and additional future contractors to lease about one and a third acres at Mosquito Point for use as a permanent staging area. The order apparently formalizes the use of Mosquito Point, by such companies as Kroeger Marine and Lakeside Barge. Mosquito Point is a mid-way point on a large expanse of water. Oconee County has expressed interest in designating an area nearby to stage emergency rescues and house watercraft.
