Firearms Discovered in Student’s Vehicle at Anderson County School

On Wednesday, two firearms were found in a student’s vehicle at the Anderson District 1 & 2 Career and Technology Center. Acting on a tip received Thursday, the Williamston Police Department said they searched a vehicle and uncovered a Taurus 9mm handgun, which was loaded, and a Scout .44 caliber rifle. A 16-year-old student was arrested and charged with possessing firearms on school property. The student was taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia. The student’s identity has not been disclosed as they are a minor.

Police Chief Kevin Marsee thanked the Career Center staff, School Resource Officers, and all involved for their swift response in maintaining school and community safety. The center serves students from Belton-Honea Path, Powdersville, Palmetto, and Wren High Schools.
