First Blue Moon on Halloween Since 1944
We will get an extra hour of sleep and an extra hour of Halloween this weekend. Daylight Saving Time ends this coming Sunday morning, November 1st at 2:00 am, so be sure to turn back any analog clocks by one hour, like the one on the microwave. Cell phones will reset themselves, generally.
And, for the first time in decades, Halloween will receive some spooky ambiance from a full moon this year. For many people, the Halloween full moon will be a once-in-a-lifetime event. The last time it occurred was in 1944, according to the Farmer’s Almanac. The next one isn’t expected to happen until 2039, NASA said.
Although Saturday’s moon will be a “blue” moon, it won’t actually appear to be blue. Scientists use the term to describe the second full moon of a given month, which only occurs about once every 2 1/2 years, NASA said.
This year’s Blue Moon, also called the Hunter’s Moon, will turn full at 10:49 a.m. EDT, and will be a rare Halloween treat.
