First Day Of School Today For Students In The School District Of Oconee County

(Seneca, SC)————Today is the first day of school for students in the School District of Oconee County and also for the first time ever, School Resource Officers will be on campus and in the hallways in every school in the School District of Oconee County as well as the Hamilton Career Center and Oconee Academy.

The Sheriff’s Office is recommending that additional travel time should be allotted during the first week of school and motorists should reduce their speed, use extreme caution around the school zones and bus stops and watch for students who walk back and forth to school.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says that the majority of collisions around schools occur between 7am and 8am and 3pm and 4pm.  Motorists can expect an increased law enforcement presence in and around the schools, especially between 6am and 9am and 3pm and 6pm.
