Four Highway Deaths over Weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces four people were killed on state roads and highways from Friday, February 1, at 6pm until Sunday, February 3, at midnight. As of February 3, 49 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 82 highway deaths in this same time period in 2012. Oconee County reports no deaths in 2013 compared to two in 2012 at this same time.  Pickens County lists four in 2013 and three in 2012.  Anderson County has experienced one fatality in 2013 compared to six in 2012. Of the 30 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2013, 20 were not wearing seat belts. Through midnight February 3, 11 pedestrians, 6 motorcyclists and 1 bicyclist have died on state roads and highways.  These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of midnight February 3, 2013.
