Four killed on SC Highways over weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces four people were killed on state roadways from Friday, December 13, at 6pm until Sunday, December 15, at midnight. As of December 15, 714 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 822 highway deaths during the same time period in 2012.  Oconee County reports three highway fatalities in 2013 compared to 20 in 2012 at this same time.  Pickens County lists 14 in 2013 and 16 in 2012.  Anderson County has experienced 32 highway deaths in 2013 compared with 48 in 2012. Of the 469 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2013, 263 were not wearing seat belts.  Through midnight December 15, 88 pedestrians, 116 motorcyclists and 13 bicyclists have died on state roads and highways. These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of midnight December 15, 2013.
