Four killed on SC Roads over weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces four people were killed on state roadways from Friday, September 20, at 6pm until Sunday, September 22, at midnight. As of September 22, 528 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 600 highway deaths in this same time period in 2012. Oconee County has experienced two high fatalities in 2013 compared to 11 in 2012 at this same time.  Pickens County reports 11 in 2013 and 13 in 2012.  Anderson County lists 21 highway deaths in 2013 compared to 34 in 2012.  Of the 354 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2013, 201 were not wearing seat belts. Through midnight September 22, 57 pedestrians, 89 motorcyclists and nine bicyclists have died on state roads and highways.  These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of midnight September 22, 2013.
