From Fraudulent Phone Calls to House Calls: Medicare Impostor Reported in Oconee County

A resident of Oconee County who lives near High Falls Park and Stamp Creek Landing called he Sheriff’s Office Wednesday and told deputies that at about 1:00 pm, a person came to the home stating that he was a Medicare Specialist and had obtained the citizen’s information from a list he paid for from those who are on Medicare. The visitor had the resident’s name and asked the citizen to verify his Social Security number, which the citizen refused to do, upon which the visitor left the residence agitated. The Sheriff’s Office does not have a firm description on the visitor other than being clean cut and well-dressed. Deputies also do not a vehicle description at this time. Officials are advising residents that if someone calls or comes to your home seeking personal information, don’t let them in without proper identification, and don’t share any type of personal information with them.
