Georgia Suspends Poultry Activities After Bird Flu Outbreak

The Georgia Department of Agriculture has suspended all poultry activities statewide after bird flu was confirmed in two commercial poultry flocks in Elbert County. The first case was detected on January 17, followed by a second confirmed case on January 22. Emergency response teams are conducting depopulation, cleaning, and disinfection efforts, affecting approximately 45,000 broiler breeders. A 10-kilometer quarantine zone has been established around affected sites, with surveillance testing for at least two weeks. All poultry exhibitions, shows, swaps, and sales are suspended until further notice. Concerns about avian influenza can be reported via the Georgia Avian Influenza hotline at 770-766-6850 or at gapoultrylab.org.
