GHS CEO named to 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare

Greenville Health System (GHS) CEO Mike Riordan has been named to Modern Healthcare’s list of the 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare. The annual awards and recognition program honors individuals in health care who are deemed by their peers and the senior editors of Modern Healthcare to be the most influential individuals in the industry in terms of leadership and impact. The program allows for readers to vote for their top choices and selected winners are then published in the annual ranking. “I am grateful to be named to this list as it recognizes GHS’ vision to transform health care for the benefit of the people and communities we serve,” said Riordan. Riordan currently serves as CEO of the Strategic Coordinating Organization for GHS and will transition to the role of co-CEO of a new, not-for-profit health company being created in partnership with Palmetto Health. The new health company aims to shape and lead the future of health care for all South Carolinians by improving patient experience, clinical quality and access to care, as well as addressing rising healthcare costs. Modern Healthcare specifically noted the change in GHS’ organizational structure in its recognition of Riordan. Prior to the formation of the health company, Riordan served as President and CEO of GHS for 10 years. Under his leadership, GHS has become one of the largest not-for-profit health systems in the region with eight medical campuses, more than 150 physician practice sites, nearly 15,000 employees and operating revenues of approximately $2 billion. Riordan currently serves on the governing boards of the Association of American Medical Colleges Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems, and Health Sciences South Carolina. He is Chairman of the Furman University Board of Trustees and serves on the board of Liberty Fellowship, an incubator for leadership in South Carolina.
