GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN PREVENTS YMCA CONSTRUCTION

January 8, 2019 Dick Mangrum
Construction of Oconee County’s YMCA is on hold as long as the federal government shutdown continues. That statement today from Christle Ross, the Y’s executive director. The campaign for the county’s first YMCA has the land, an architect, a builder, and a large federal loan. But until Washington reaches agreement to get the government back up and running, the “Y” property will remain property that has been cleared only. “We’re just hoping there’s resolution in Washington soon, so we can make this happen quicker,“ Ross told us this morning. The property designated for the “Y” was part of hospital property, made available by GHS/Oconee Memorial.
