(Seneca, SC)——Two men, a grandfather and his grandson, died in a house fire over the weekend in Oconee County.

Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis identified the deceased as 75 year old Winfred Lee Dills and 25 year old Daniel Lee Ayers.

Both Mr. Dills and Mr. Ayers lived at the location of the fire, which is 140 Hidden Valley Road.

Just before midnight Saturday night, Oconee firefighters were alerted to reports of a fire at the incident location, which is between Walhalla and Salem, according to Oconee Fire Chief Charlie King.

Chief King says that one individual was treated on scene and was transported via EMS to the hospital while the remains of the two deceased men were discovered inside.

The fire remains under investigation this morning.  Coroner Addis indicates that Mr. Ayers entered the house through the back door in an attempt to rescue his grandfather.
