Halloween Safety Tips

To ensure that everyone has a happy Halloween, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is offering these safety tips, tells Public Information Officer Jimmy Watt. “The Sheriff’s Office wants everyone to be safe this Halloween. Motorists should drive carefully from the late afternoon through the mid-evening hours on Halloween and prepare for increased pedestrian and vehicular traffic during this time. Motorists should make sure their headlights, brake lights and other lights on their vehicles are working properly. All costumes and bags should have some type of reflective material on them and wearing a costume with light colors is always a good idea. Make sure that costumes fit properly to reduce the risk of falling and tripping. If you will be walking in your neighborhood going door-to-door, make sure that children have adult supervision and considering traveling in groups in well-lit areas. You may want to consider carrying a flash light or glow sticks so motorists can see you better. If you are planning to go from house to house, you may want to consider going to residences of those you know, whether it be families, friends or neighbors. When you arrive back home, make sure that the candy is sealed properly in its packaging. When traveling by vehicle, always buckle up and make sure not to be distracted when driving.” If you will be consuming alcohol during any Halloween event or party, do not drink and drive instead designated a sober driver.
