Hamilton Name to remain on New Career Center

The name of a retired educator will remain on the new career center for the School District of Oconee County (SDOC), explains Oconee County Schools Associate Superintendent of Administration Steve Hanvey. “We knew the Fred Hamilton name was going to stay at one of our facilities, but the recommendation and decision by the board was to put that name on the new career center that we are getting ready to build and open in August of 2020, the one on Highway 11 by the Tri-County Technical College campus at the Industry and Technology Park. It will be called the Hamilton Career and Technology Center and then we will work on a new name for the location of the current Hamilton Career Center since we are re-purposing that for use for the alternative school, adult ed, maintenance and some other district programs.” The Board of Trustees for the SDOC voted 5-0 to call the planned building the Hamilton Career and Technology Center. Fred Hamilton was a long-time superintendent of education, a teacher, a school board member and a key supporter of the establishment of the career center, now located in Bountyland.
