Hanvey named Assistant Superintendent of Instruction

An institution of learning will be retiring at the end of the current school year and her replacement was named last night.  At their regular meeting, the Board of Trustees for the School District of Oconee County accepted the recommendation of Steve Hanvey as the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction.  Hanvey will be replacing Dianne England, who has served as the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction since August 2007, and she will be retiring after almost four decades of service on June 30, 2013.  Dr. Michael Lucas, superintendent for the School District of Oconee County, stated, “We’ll miss Mrs. England who has done an excellent job of serving as our chief officer in the area of instruction.  I’m pleased, however, that Mr. Hanvey will continue the tradition of providing leadership in the area of curriculum and instruction.  I know he’ll work hard to provide excellence in the instructional programs of our school system for the citizens of the community.” Hanvey assumes his new duties on July 1, 2013. He has 22-years of experience as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, and district level administrator.  All of this service has been in Oconee County.  Hanvey most recently served as principal of Walhalla Elementary, and he assumed the position of Director of Federal Programs and Professional Development in July 2012.
