Hartwell Lake recycling Christmas Trees

Tis the season for Christmas tree recycling at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Hartwell Lake. Through February 15, the Corps will collect used, natural Christmas trees that will be used as fish attractors throughout Hartwell Lake. The trees will be tied in bundles, weighted with concrete anchors, and submerged in various locations marked with fish attractor buoys.  All ornaments and tinsel must be removed from trees before drop-off. Christmas trees can be dropped off at the following locations: Big Oaks Recreation Area in Hart County, Ga.; Twin Lakes boat ramp in Pickens County, SC;  Coneross boat ramp in Coneross Park, SC; and Poplar Springs boat ramp in Franklin County, Ga. Anglers can pick up these trees any time for personal use until February 15 at any of these locations. Trees should be anchored in eight-to-twelve feet of water. Do not place Christmas trees in the main lake channel or around private docks.
