Healthy Oconee Coalition Hosting Free Events And Training In Oconee County

(Seneca, SC)———————–The Healthy Oconee Coalition will be hosting some free events and training over the next couple of weeks, beginning with free training tomorrow on Mental Health First Aid from 9am until 5pm at the Walhalla Performing Arts Center. Also, next Monday at the Gignilliat Community Center in Seneca, the Coalition will host a free all day event called “Know Your Neighbor.”

Daby Snipes, who is the Program Director with Safe Kids Upstate and who is also a member of the Healthy Oconee Coalition, says that the Healthy Oconee Coalition is a group of different partnering agencies in Oconee County that received a grant from South Carolina Rural Health to look at how to make Oconee County healthier. Breakfast and lunch will be provided next Monday for the event. A poverty simulation will be conducted along with a South Carolina Department of Health presentation in the afternoon as well next Monday.

The Mental Health First Aid training that is also being offered will focus on helping those involved not only understand mental health conditions but also learn to recognize them and handle crisis situations they may encounter on the job, out in the community or even at home. Participants will be Certified in Mental Health First Aid at the completion of the day-long training.

Besides the Mental Health training being offered tomorrow, a second class on Mental Health Training is being offered on Tuesday, March 26th from 9am until 5pm at the Oconee Campus of Tri-County Technical College.
