Help available to battle Meth Addiction

While homegrown meth labs have decreased over the past few years in Oconee County, the price of methamphetamine has dropped so it is still readily available. This highly addictive drug can hook someone after just one use, says Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw. “The addictiveness of this drug is so strong that in many cases if you try it just one time, you are addicted.” Free help is available in the community, adds Sheriff Crenshaw. “There is free help available in Oconee County through several organizations. Obviously, as soon as we get the sprinkler system, we got delayed due to the fire that we had in the old part of the Law Enforcement Center, so as soon as that sprinkler system gets in Christ Central Ministries is hopefully going to be offering some treatment services. The South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation offers treatment services. Mots of this is free, it won’t cost you a thing but you have to be willing to take that step. You’ve got to realize that you’ve got an addiction, you need some help and there are people that will help you. If you don’t get help two things are going to happen to you; you’re going to end up dead or you are going to end up in jail.” For more information on drug treatment services call the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office at 864-638-4111.
