Homicide Investigation in Anderson County

Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore reports that his office and the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the homicide of 29-year-old Oscar David Barrios Mazariegos of Anderson, SC. Just after 4 a.m. Thursday, deputies responded to shots fired on Palmetto Lane and found the victim deceased in a vehicle from multiple gunshot wounds. Preliminary findings indicate the death stemmed from a domestic altercation: 35-year-old Thomas J. Anderson went to his estranged wife’s apartment, found Barrios Mazariegos there, pursued him as he tried to flee, and shot him. Anderson faces charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime; he is held at the Anderson County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing. An autopsy is scheduled, and the investigation continues with assistance from MedShore EMS and South Carolina Highway Patrol.
