Horton, Inc. To Build Manufacturing Plant In Oconee County; Company Expects To Employ 125

(Seneca, SC)—————————It was a busy night for news and announcements at last night’s regular Oconee County Council meeting. Council approved the third and final reading of an ordinance that approved a fee in lieu of tax agreement between the County and Horton, Inc. for the company to build a manufacturing facility in Oconee County, which will be their first in the Southeast.

Janet Hartman, Executive Director for Oconee Economic Alliance, says Horton, Inc. is a company located in the Midwest and the Oconee location will be their fourth overall facility. Horton, Inc. manufactures engine cooling systems for on and off road vehicles.

The manufacturing facility will be located in the Oconee Industry and Technology Park on Highway 11 and the size of their facility will be around 100,000 square feet. The company is expected to have 125 employees. Hartman says that construction on their new facility should begin within the next couple of months with hiring to begin later on this year. Hartman says that operations should begin sometime in 2020.

Hartman said that the County’s Work Force Development Campus played an important part in Horton, Inc.’s decision to build the facility in Oconee County. Hartman says the Work Force Development Campus is a great selling point for the County as it helps to attract business and industry. Hartman said the team environment and partnerships in the County with public and private entities was important in bringing Horton, Inc. to Oconee County.

Hartman said the process was a very competitive one and considering who the second choice was, she is proud of Oconee Economic Alliance and the public and private partnerships and the place where they live in regards to Horton, Inc. selecting Oconee County. Hartman feels really good with all aspects of the partnerships and with bringing this new manufacturer to Golden Corner.
