Hospitality And Accommodations Tax Fund Important Part Of Staging Events And Promoting Tourism In Seneca

(Seneca, SC)————Recently, Seneca City Council approved a resolution to allow the city to co-sponsor the first ever Cinco de Mayo event in downtown Seneca on Saturday, May 4th as well as a resolution to book a musical act for the upcoming 4th of July event.

The $3,000 for the co-sponsorship of the Cinco de Mayo event and the $2,500 to book the beach group The Occasions for the 4th of July event came from the Hospitality and Accommodations Tax Fund.

According to Seneca Mayor Day Alexander, the Hospitality and Accommodations tax is a 2% tax paid when those who travel through Seneca stay in a hotel or perhaps eat a meal in a restaurant in the city limits. In fact, 60% of the money generated in the HAT fund is made by those traveling through Seneca, according to Seneca Mayor Dan Alexander.

The Hospitality and Accommodations tax fund is used to generate and promote events in the city of Seneca to help bring people to Seneca for tourism purposes, such as sporting events or events in downtown Seneca, such as Jazz on the Alley and the All New Downtown Seneca Fest 2019. Mayor Alexanders says the city of Seneca hosts 60 to 70 events a year.
