Inmate Who Escaped From Pickens County Detention Center Back In Custody

(Seneca, SC)————————The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office has announced that an inmate who escaped from the Pickens County Detention Center this past weekend was captured yesterday at a residence in Liberty. 

45 year old Steven Leroy Aiken escaped after a perimeter door was opened in order to bring laundry into the facility back on Sunday, according to Chief Deputy Creed Hashe. Chief Hashe reported that Aiken had leaped over the perimeter fence and then fled on foot around 4:05pm.. 

According to Hashe, Aiken was arrested without incident at an address on Morning Dew Court. Aiken is back at the Pickens County Detention Center and is facing an additional charge of Escape. 

Chief Hashe said the arrest occurred after receiving additional leads and information from the public. Hashe also says that the investigation into Aiken’s escape is still ongoing to determine if Aiken had any help or assistance to avoid arrest in regards to his whereabouts since the escape. 

Aiken was in jail serving a 128 day sentence for a Family Court Bench Warrant.
