Institute on STEM Teaching and Learning at TCTC

Tri-County Technical College will host a conference to promote science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education on July 29-30, 2013 from 8:30am – 4pm in the College’s Industrial and Business Development Center.  Thirty educators from Anderson, Oconee, and Pickens school districts, along with educators from Tri-County and Clemson University, will attend the STEM conference. At the conference, experts will discuss how to promote science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education at teachers’ individual schools.  Speakers will include Dr. Michael Daugherty, a professor of Technology and Engineering Education and head of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Arkansas. Content Coach will be Kim M. Weaver, elementary teacher and author, St. Mary’s County Public Schools, Maryland.  These content experts from the field will inform and coach school teams through a process for school improvement. Tri-County Technical College President Ronnie Booth will kick off the Institute at 8:30am on July 29.  Scott Miller, local government and community relations manager for Anderson, Oconee and Abbeville counties, Duke Energy Carolinas, will deliver the keynote speech at 9am. An ongoing goal is to develop ways to integrate technological literacy into the K-16 curricula in ways that will encourage more local students to choose STEM careers. The Institute is funded by an AdvanceSC grant.
