Interstate Speeder arrested

Authorities in Anderson County have captured a suspect involved in a high-speed chase in Hart County on Christmas Day.  Anderson County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 29-year-old Michael David Brandon Chastain over the weekend. Chastain was picked up at a convenience store on Shockley Ferry Road and South Main Street Sunday afternoon.  He was given a $100,000 bond but remains in the Anderson County Detention Center.  Dispatchers received a call Christmas Day about an erratic driver near the intersection of SR 51 and 77.  When law enforcement officers spotted Chastain’s vehicle, a high-speed chase ensued, which reached speeds of up to 120 miles per hour through Hartwell on U.S. 29.  The vehicle was chased into Anderson County to Good Hope Church Road where Chastain attempted to ram the Sheriff’s car. In addition to the latest charges against him in Anderson County, Chastain was wanted on numerous outstanding warrants including attempted murder, being involved with a chop shop, buying and selling vehicles with tampered ID’s, resisting arrest, failure to stop for a blue light, manufacturing of methamphetamine, receiving stolen goods $10,000 or more, criminal damage to property, petty larceny, and possession of a stolen vehicle. In Hart County, Chastain is charged with felony fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving, speeding, and driving too fast for conditions.
