Is Oconee Conservative Enough? Some Say, “No”

Some Republicans in Oconee County think that, for a county that professes to be conservative, many of the elected leaders and members of the local party are not being vocal enough about their values. Close to 300 residents showed up last night for a meeting of the Oconee County Republican Party at the Keowee Key Conference Center to choose county convention delegates, conduct a precinct re-organization and other business. Now, since there was such a large turn-out, a second meeting will have to be held ahead of this year’s convention.

Former President Donald Trump has already endorsed both Sen. Tim Scott and Gov. Henry McMaster’s bids for reelection in 2022. Trump commended their efforts on behalf of the military, veterans and law enforcement. Last month, Trump gave backing to Drew McKissick for a third term as chairman of the South Carolina Republican Party.
