Jemike Wildfire Update: 75% Contained

Firefighters are resuming fire line construction around the 474-acre Jemike wildfire north of Walhalla as conditions dry out. Crews are working around hazard trees from Hurricane Helene, which are slowing progress. Winds are expected to reach 15-20 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph. While nearly an inch of rain helped douse parts of the fire, interior pockets remain active. The fire is 75% contained with 73 personnel on scene. The Yellow Branch Trail and picnic area remain closed, but no evacuations are in effect. The statewide burn ban has been lifted for all counties except Georgetown and Horry as of March 5.
