Job Openings in SDOC

As the School District of Oconee County (SDOC) prepares for another school year in August, they are currently looking for interested candidates to fill a number of job openings. At the conclusion of the recent school year, the SDOC celebrated the retirement of 70 teachers and faculty. Now they must fill those positions, tells Oconee County Schools Assistant Superintendent of Operations Steve Hanvey. “We always have the bus drivers, we’re still looking to get those folks in and get them trained up and ready to go so that we can have them going when school starts because that is a process. They can contact Ozzie Wright’s office for information about that. I know we have a class going on right now, we have a class coming up in July and then we have a class the first part of August. So, we are probably right now about eight drivers short with retirement and attrition from this school year. Custodians continue to be a need for us. We have some certified vacancies that we are really looking for and a lot of those are Special Ed. We have a PE opening, which is unusual for us but this year we have had like 10 or 11 different openings with PE, so it has been an unusual year for that. We have 4K openings, a social studies position at Seneca Middle, guidance/career counselor at Walhalla Middle, English at West-Oak High and a business ed teacher at Seneca High. So, we have a number of openings and if folks are interested they can go to our website and see those. We also have some classified openings where we are looking for assistants for classrooms and we are looking for assistant in special needs classrooms. More than we would like to have at this time but we understand that is the nature of the business. We will keep working hard to get the qualified folks in there so that come August our classes will be ready to go with qualified and top notch folks to help our students be successful.” To learn more about job vacancies in the SDOC, visit www.oconee.k12.sc.us or call the district office at 864-886-4400.
