Judge rules in dispute between City and TV Station

A judge’s ruling was delivered this week in a dispute between a TV station and the City of Seneca. Tenth Circuit Judge Cordell Maddox ruled that materials sought by WSPA should be produced “with the exception of those items listed in a forthcoming order.”  The Oconee Common Please Court decision was handed down on Wednesday in the case brought by TV reporter Robin Kanady against the Seneca Police Department for withholding documents in an internal police investigation of sexual harassment. Judge Maddox said the police officers involved in the case either had resigned or were removed from their positions. The TV station filed a Freedom of Information Act request, which the police department denied, citing privacy considerations. In deciding the case, Judge Maddox said he reviewed the contested documents.
