Keowee Elementary celebrates 100 Years

Keowee Elementary School hosted its 100 year celebration on Saturday.  School tours, inflatables, food and a cruise-in car show were some of the attractions at this Community Centennial Celebration. A major highlight was the original schoolhouse bell.  The bell has been in the possession of the Keowee-Ebenezer Fire Department which is adjacent to the school for almost thirty years.  It is believed that the bell was part of the original building during 1913.  Once the fire department was aware of plans to celebrate the school’s 100 year celebration, plans fell into place to have the bell restored.  The bell rang for the first time in almost 30 years during the celebration. The Keowee-Ebenezer Fire Department hopes to have the bell mounted in a permanent location within the next year.  They also plan to seek approval for an historical marker near the bell, somewhere between the school and the fire department.
