Knowing the difference between Strains and Sprains

Knowing the difference between strains and sprains could ease a lot of pain, says Doug Lauber, Chief of Occupational Therapy at Excel Rehab and Sports. “Last weekend was a great weekend for yard work. It was a great weekend to clean out the garage and pressure wash the house and the porch and do a little weed eating, mowing and stuff like that. So, there are probably a lot of people on Monday morning that are a little sore. They need to figure out is this something that is a strain that may take some guidance in order to get better or is it something that you are a little muscle sore and you will get over it. I would say the difference when you have soreness is does the soreness last for 24 hours, not only that does it last for 48 hours. I would say if it last for 24 hours but you still have it but you see it getting better over that 48 hour mark, I would say you are pretty good to go. You were a little bit sore, you kind of over did it this weekend, maybe you were out on the lake and you swam a little bit further than you were supposed to or you rode that tube a little bit harder than you normally do and your arms are a little sore or is it something that you are over that 48 hour mark and it still hurts. I would say that those people that are over that 48 hour mark and it still hurts then they really need to get checked out.” If you are unsure if it is a strain or sprain, call Excel Rehab and Sports at 864-654-2001 to schedule a free screening.
