Lawsuit Filed Against PRWD

A lawsuit filed in Anderson Court of Common Pleas alleges the Pioneer Rural Water District’s negligence led to an accident near a water break in Townville. Plaintiff Matthew Roper claims he was struck by a vehicle while walking his dog along Shenandoah Road in June 2022, due to a large water break extending into the roadway. Despite being alerted, a Pioneer technician posted about the break on TikTok and left without repairing it or setting up warnings, according to the suit. Roper, it’s alleged, unable to avoid the vehicle due to the water, suffered severe injuries, including multiple broken bones and a traumatic brain injury, requiring life flight to Prisma Health Campus. The lawsuit, seeking over $100,000 in damages, alleges gross negligence by Pioneer for failing to mitigate the known hazard.
