Let the Light Shine at the OHC

A local museum is attempting to go green, so they can save green.  The Oconee Heritage Center announces the “Let the Light Shine” campaign, which is an attempt to replace all the light bulbs in the museum with energy-efficient LED light bulbs.  Oconee Heritage Center curator and director Leslie White gives details.  “This is an on-going campaign.  A complaint we get at the Heritage Center is that visitors cannot see, which is a catch 22 for us because light damages historic artifacts.  We have hopefully found a way to solve our problem with LED light bulbs.  They are bright and clear and omit no UV rays, so the artifacts will not be damaged.  They are also cheaper to operate.” However, LED bulbs are expensive, continues White.  “Unfortunately, LED bulbs are very expensive upfront.  They will save money in the long run but upfront we need $5,000 to change all of our bulbs.” The Oconee Heritage Center has already raised $400 and White says every contribution counts. “Every little bit counts and you can donate online, if you want to email me I can send you the link.  It is through a source called Go Fund Me.  We established our project there, so you can donate online or you can send us a check or bring one by.” Email White at [email protected].  You can make a donation in person by visiting the museum at 123 Brown’s Square Drive in Walhalla.  The Oconee Heritage Center is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, so donations are tax deductible.
